INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Hot Wheels and the Indianapolis 500 are teaming up to bring the toy world to life on May 29.
Company officials plan to install a 100-foot door in the fourth turn of the historic speedway and will send an unidentified driver down a 90-foot ramp to break the world-record for longest jump in a four-wheel vehicle. The ramp replicates the company’s V-Drop track, which children use to send miniature cars soaring.
Johnny Greaves holds the current record of 301 feet.
The jump is scheduled to take place hours before the annual race begins, and vice president of marketing Simon Waldron says race organizers are taking extra precautions to keep spectators safe.
