The Port of Vancouver will apply for an $800,000 state loan to improve a vacant building in hopes of convincing a company to locate and create jobs there, the Board of Commissioners decided Tuesday.

Commissioners voted unanimously to authorize Executive Director Larry Paulson to apply for the loan from the state Community Economic Revitalization Board.

The funds would pay for concrete floors, electrical improvements and upgraded heating, ventilating and air conditioning for Building 2001.

Curtis Shuck, the port’s director of economic development and facilities, said the goal is a long-term lease with a new tenant to breathe life into the building and generate jobs.
