OBERHOFEN, Switzerland (AP) — Women’s ski jumping’s debut World Cup season is set to open on the Lillehammer hill used at the 1994 Olympics.

The International Ski Federation (FIS) says it has drafted a 16-event calendar starting in the Norwegian resort on Dec. 3. The schedule needs final FIS approval in June.

The World Cup circuit is scheduled to visit 10 venues in eight countries, with Zao in Japan next March the only stop outside Europe.

The 2011-12 season is set to finish March 10 in Oslo, which hosted the recent world championships.

The high quality of competition at the worlds convinced the International Olympic Committee last week to add women’s ski jumping to the 2014 Sochi Winter Games program.
