Ore. ‘hero dog’ finds home of her own

REDMOND, Ore. (AP) — The “hero dog” of the Humane Society of Redmond, Ore., has finally found a home.

The stray pit bull mix named Nala became a celebrity last December when she dragged her volunteer dog walker to a nearby ditch where a lost, blind cocker spaniel had collapsed in freezing temperatures. The cocker had been recently adopted from the shelter and had escaped from his new home. He was soon returned to his owner.

But the months passed and Nala continued to wait for a home of her own. She was adopted Thursday by a Powell Butte couple after recently passing her one-year anniversary at the shelter.

Shelter Manager Chris Bauersfeld tells KTVZ that shelter workers put a lot of effort into correcting some of Nala’s behavior problems.

She’ll share Philip and Janet Roberts’ ranch with an older lab/mastiff mix named Grizzly and a cat.
