A Woodland woman was arrested Wednesday for allegedly swiping lottery tickets from the pocket of a 70-year-old man while she waited in line behind him at a convenience store.

Police said in a news release Phyllis Symmonds, 52, was shown in security videos taking $30 of lottery tickets from the man’s back pocket Tuesday at the Toad’s Express, 1155 Horman St. in Woodland.

Police used the footage to identify her vehicle, a two-door white sedan, and found it parked at a nearby home. Employees at the market told police the woman was a regular customer.

On Wednesday, Symmonds went to the Woodland Police Department saying she had heard officers wanted to talk to her about some lottery tickets she had found. Eventually, she admitted to taking them from the victim’s pocket, according to the release.

Symmonds was arrested on suspicion of first-degree theft and booked into the Cowlitz County Jail.
