Would a Vancouver woman drive on a freeway while inhaling laughing gas from a whipped-cream dispenser?

Robin Rae Wick, 45, did today, and also led police on a car chase up to 80 mph from the Clackamas area to Southeast Portland, according to a bulletin from the Oregon State Police.

Wick, who finally stopped the car and surrendered, was taken to the Clackamas County Jail on suspicion of DUI-drugs, reckless driving and attempting to elude police, a felony, OSP Lt. Gregg Hastings said in the bulletin.

The wildness got started on Interstate 205 northbound from the West Linn area, when a citizen and a trooper reported seeing Wick drive erratically while inhaling something from a balloon and another unknown object, the bulletin said.

About 12:30 p.m., an OSP trooper on a motorcycle saw the car and tried to pull it over in the Clackamas area.

Wick allegedly accelerated away, the bulletin said.

With more Oregon troopers and a Clackamas County sheriff’s deputy following, Wick allegedly drove onto secondary roads, got back on I-205 northbound at up to 80 mph and headed east on Southeast Washington Street. She finally stopped at Washington and Stark streets. the bulletin said.

Officers arrested Wick and, in the car, found a whipped-cream dispenser and “multiple nitrous oxide charger canisters,” the bulletin said.

Nitrous oxide, also called laughing gas, is sometimes used by dentists to lessen pain while extracting teeth. It also makes people euphoric and giggly, according to http://www.dentalfearcentral.org.
