ATLANTA (AP) — The Atlanta Braves have recalled right-hander Jairo Asencio from Triple-A to bolster their pitching staff for a doubleheader against the New York Mets.

Catcher J.C. Boscan was optioned to Gwinnett before Saturday’s games.

Asencio, formerly known as Luis Valdez, was 0-1 with a 3.38 ERA in three games with Atlanta in 2009. The native of the Dominican Republic was on the restricted list for the full 2010 season due to visa problems.

Boscan did not have a hit in his only at-bat with Atlanta after he was recalled from Gwinnett on April 8.

The Braves will make another move before the second game of the doubleheader to clear a roster spot for right-hander Jair Jurrjens.
