VANCOUVER — It’s a signature event in Clark County each May: Dozer Day, which shows off dump trucks, bulldozers and excavators — and lets thousands of children have their hand at running some of the equipment.

The proceeds benefit a host of local community groups, organizations and clubs.

None of that happens without volunteers.

The sponsor, Nutter Foundation, is taking volunteer applications at http://nutterfoundation.org for Dozer Day 2011, which is May 21-22.

Volunteers must be at least 14 years old and will work with equipment operators to help children on and off machinery, monitor lines and assist with check-in, ticket-taking, etc. Only experienced, professional operators are sought to operate the equipment.

This year’s volunteer shifts are 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 21; and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 22.

All volunteers receive free admission, a snack pack and water. More information about volunteering and an online registration form is available at http://nutterfoundation.org or from Mike Bomar of the Southwest Washington Contractors Association, Mike@swca.org or 360-694-7922.

To ensure safety, all volunteers will be pre-screened via a Washington State Patrol background check and must attend one of three orientation meetings at the Nutter Corporation office in Vancouver.
