VALKENBURG, Netherlands (AP) — Belgian cyclist Philippe Gilbert has won the Amstel Gold Race title for the second straight year, edging Joaquim Rodriguez of Spain and Simon Gerrans of Australia.

Gilbert last week won the Fleche-Brabanconne race. He is only the second rider in the history of the Amstel Gold Race to win two straight titles. Dutchman Jan Raas won four times between 1977 and 1980.

Gilbert led a group of 15 riders that charged past Andy Schleck on Sunday’s final climb before overtaking Rodriguez in a blistering pace three miles from the finish.
