Community notebook: King’s Way lacrosse wins twice

The King’s Way boys lacrosse team scored a pair of road victories, winning on Friday against the Seattle Prep Panthers and on Saturday against the Stadium Tigers.

In Friday’s 15-2 win over Seattle Prep, Koda Robinson scored six goals and Clayton Frank had four goals and two assists for the Knights.

In Saturday’s win over Stadium, Jack Beall (three), Jason Klein (two) and Tyler Preston (two) were the top goal scorers for King’s Way.

King’s Way goalie Max Zandstra made a combined 15 saves in the two games.

• The Evergreen Lacrosse Club remained winless at the midpoint of their its varsity season in the Washington School Girls Lacrosse Association, dropping a pair of home matches last week at McKenzie Stadium.

On Thursday, Ballard beat Evergreen 16-4. Mariesa Smith scored two goals, and Lauren Hurst had one goal and one assist for Evergreen. Goalie Casey Bahr made six saves.

On Saturday, Mackenzie Nelson had three goals for Evergreen and Casey Bahr made seven saves for the Evergreen Lacrosse Club in Saturday’s 11-5 home loss to North Kitsap.

Evergreen begins the second half of season today at Tahoma.

Timbers Reds squads place 2nd

Two Vancouver United Soccer Alliance teams finished second in the Washington Youth Soccer Challenge Cup state tournament for the under-11 age group.

The boys Timbers Reds won a semifinal match in a penalty-kick tiebreaker on Saturday, then lost in Sunday’s state final to Crossfire Premier.

Playing for the boys team were: Andrew Boyle, Taye Bunda, Nicholas Cage, Jacob Fuller, Andrew Harris, Ezekiel Henderson, Christopher Henry, Brennan Lamoreaux, Brison Manandic, Kyle McLaughlin, Zane Parks, Chase Rogers, Jacob Schaffer.

The girls team Timbers Reds also won in semifinals penalty kick tiebreaker on Saturday, beating Eastside Red 2-1.

After taking a 2-0 lead in Sunday’s championship match, the Timbers lost to Crossfire-Crum of Redmond, 4-2.

Playing for the Timbers Reds were: Maddie Christian, Laura Schlueter, Marissa Bobay, Emily Wilson, Angela Gomez, MaKayla Woods, Chloe Brusseau, Angelina Krawczyk Laurel Mickel, Elise Schey, Jessica McDonald, Melody Hollar, Anna Foster, and Moira Chaney.

Several older VUSA clubs have reached the state semifinals. A list of scores is in the Community Sports Scoreboard.

Camas rugby team falls

Lincoln defeated the Camas Mean Machine 24-8 on Saturday in an Oregon Youth Rugby match played at Skyridge Middle School.

Camas scored one try by Nickolas Gadbaw and a penalty kick by Nolan Valenter. Man of the match for Camas Mean Machine was Gadbaw.

Camas (1-3) will travel to face Western Oregon at Western Oregon University at 1 p.m. on Saturday for its next match.

Camas hammer team competes

Members of the Camas Hammer Club competed in the Larry Eason Invitational on Saturday in Snohomish.

In the men’s division, Chip Sudbeck took fourth place with a throw of 146 feet, 5 inches, and Triton Pitassi took fifth place with a throw of 143-7.

In the women’s division Rachel Martschinske took second place with a throw of 120-2.

Local crew team wins medals

Vancouver Lake Crew took 25 rowers to the Covered Bridge Regatta on April 9 at Dexter Lake, Ore., and earned 19 medals.

Results are in the Community Sports Scoreboard.

The VLC high school rowers are training for the regional championships May 20-22 on Vancouver Lake.
