PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The parents of a 4-year-old Washington state boy say an Oregon doctor operated on the wrong eye of their child.

Dale Matlock and Tasha Gaul of Vancouver, Wash., told KATU-TV in Portland their son, Jesse Matlock, was scheduled for surgery on his right eye last week but the doctor mistakenly operated on his left eye before repeating the same operation, this time on the correct eye.

The boy’s mother says the surgery was supposed to prevent her son’s right eye from wandering. Since the operation, she says has not seen any improvement in the right eye and now the left eye appears to be wandering.

The surgeon, Dr. Shawn Goodman of Lake Oswego, did not immediately return a message on Tuesday. KATU said efforts to reach her Monday were unsuccessful.
