WALLA WALLA, Wash. (AP) — A man who shot at a College Place police officer was found not guilty of assault by reason of insanity.

Based on mental evaluations, Walla Walla County Superior Court Judge Donald Schacht signed an order Monday determining Jay D. Jeffrey was insane nearly a year ago when he fired at the officer at a house where he was living.

The Union-Bulletin reports the 43-year-old will be further evaluated at Eastern State Hospital at Medical Lake. He’ll remain under court jurisdiction for up to five years.
