Letter: Milbank’s accusations off base

Dana Milbank’s April 9 column, “As darkness lifts, Beck loses relevance,” is so full of distortions, I cannot list them all. He accused Glenn Beck of being anti-Semitic. One bit of proof he offered is that “Beck attacked the Jewish billionaire, George Soros, a Holocaust survivor.” Beck did not attack Soros because he is a Jew. He attacked him because he uses his fortune to fund dozens of left-wing organizations. Correctly, Beck states that Soros supports a “new world order.” Beck uses Soros’ own videos proclaiming this as one of his goals. A new world order is a euphemism for a global government to which the U.S. would be subject.

Milbank stated, “ominously, Beck began to traffic regularly in anti-Semitic themes.” Another lie. As a daily viewer, I know Beck to be a strong supporter of Israel. He has been urging that the U.S. support Israel and not throw them under the bus because it would result in Mideast chaos and snuff out any chance of democracy in the region.
