CHICAGO (AP) — Ryan Ludwick had three hits, including one of the Padres’ three home runs, and San Diego beat the Chicago Cubs 5-4 on Wednesday night to split a doubleheader.

Cameron Maybin and Chris Denorfia also homered off James Russell (1-3) as the Padres rebounded from a 2-1 loss in the opener. The doubleheader came after Tuesday night’s game was rained out.

After losing the opener on Reed Johnson’s homer in the 11th inning, San Diego took the lead in the second inning of Game 2 on Ludwick’s two-run homer. Maybin extended the lead to 3-0 with his homer in the fourth, and Denorfia connected in the fifth.

Johnson drove in Alfonso Soriano in the fifth, and Soriano added a two-run homer in the eighth inning, but it wasn’t enough to come all the way back.

Aaron Harang (4-0) gave up two runs over six innings before turning it over to the bullpen, and Heath Bell worked the ninth inning for his fifth save.
