Volunteers are needed Saturday to help plant native vegetation on state land on the western edge of the Columbia River Gorge.

The Washington Department of Natural Resources is asking volunteers to meet at 9 a.m. at the Steigerwald Lake National Wildlife Refuge trailhead just east of Washougal along state Highway 14. Participants will plant native trees and shrubs along Lawton Creek, after volunteers previously ripped out non-native Himalayan blackberries.

Bring gloves, a shovel, sturdy boots, lunch and water. The event should wrap up by 1 p.m.

DNR will provide snacks and water.
