A 10-year-old bicyclist was taken to a hospital by AMR ambulance Wednesday afternoon after he was hit by a car on East Evergreen Boulevard near Harney Elementary School.

Vancouver police said today the boy was not seriously injured.

The boy was hit about 3 p.m. in the 3100 block of Evergreen, according to a bulletin from Kim Kapp, spokeswoman for the Vancouver Police Department.

The driver had been heading east when the car hit the boy in the crosswalk. The driver stopped and remained at the scene to help with the investigation.

“Early indications are that the bicyclist may have darted into the crosswalk and the driver did not have ample time to stop; however the investigation is in the early stages,” Kapp said in the bulletin.

Officials found no bicycle helmet at the scene.

The police Traffic Unit is investigating the crash. Preliminary reports are that the driver was traveling 20 miles per hour. Had be been speeding, the boy’s injuries likely would have been far more severe, Kapp said by phone today.

She added that the boy was released from the hospital and allowed to go home later Wednesday.
