WASHINGTON (AP) — Baseball star Roger Clemens is being denied the chance to get his hands on evidence being held by a House committee that he lied about using performance-enhancing drugs.

But a judge left open the possibility that Clemens may be able to get material from the authors of Major League Baseball’s Mitchell Report that first publicly accused him of being a user. The judge said he will review the authors’ memos and notes before making a final decision.

Clemens wants the material for his upcoming trial on perjury charges. His lawyers indicated they were particularly interested in material that would back up their theory that Clemens’ former trainer Brian McNamee has told a series of conflicting statements as he falsely accused Clemens of using drugs.
