PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A judge has ordered the sale of a utility on the Oregon coast that state health officials and the attorney general said provided unsafe water.

Oregon Attorney General John Kroger said Thursday that a Lincoln County Circuit Court judge ordered the immediate sale of Rose Lodge Water Co. in the town of Otis.

Kroger said the public water system provided untreated, untested and unfiltered water to about 600 homes in violation of the Oregon Drinking Water Quality Act.

He said Rose Lodge supplied untreated surface water that potentially exposed people to numerous harmful pathogens and chemicals.

Gail Shibley, Oregon’s top environmental public health officer, said officials are confident residents of the Otis area just north of Lincoln City will soon have a water system that provides safe drinking water.
