TUKWILA, Wash. (AP) — A police spokesman says a woman whose car went into the Duwamish River Thursday night in a south Seattle suburb has died.
Tukwila police spokesman Mike Murphy says the death is being investigated as an accident.
The vehicle left the road, plunged down a steep embankment and into the water at about 7:25 p.m. The Seattle Times says passers-by tried to walk down the embankment to save the woman before the car slipped underwater but were unsuccessful.
The car had been submerged for more than a half hour when divers were able to pull the woman from the water. Medics tried CPR but could not revive her.
She was alone in the vehicle.
