EVERETT, Wash. (AP) — The 65-year-old woman who died Wednesday of a heart attack in the Snohomish County Jail was awaiting sentencing for letting cats die at a Granite Falls home she could no longer afford.
Diane Cowling had been in jail since January when more than two dozen cats were found dead in the home after it went into foreclosure. She pleaded guilty in March to animal cruelty and was to have been sentenced on Monday.
Her son also pleaded guilty in the case and was sentenced to five months in jail.
The Daily Herald reports Cowling was a former Boeing worker who had breast cancer, diabetes, respiratory problems, and a heart condition.
