Thirteen hours after a three-alarm fire broke out a Hazel Dell apartment complex, firefighters found and rescued a black and gray cat.

The cat was found hiding behind a couch in apartment F-20, part of a block of 24 units of the Rolling Creek Apartments damaged in the blaze. The cat had a singed tail, burns on its face and paw and suffered smoke inhalation. A pediatric oxygen mask was used to give the cat fresh air.

The animal was rescued at about 3:30 a.m. It was taken to St. Francis Animal Hospital where it was determined to be in stable condition.

Today it was being released to the Southwest Washington Humane Society. If anyone from yesterday’s fire is missing a cat that matches the description, contact the humane society at 360-693-4746.

Angel Simpson sobbed outside the building Thursday out of concern for her orange cat, Nermal. It was reported that a cat that looked like Nermal had been found and taken to a vet.
