ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — The Los Angeles Angels placed reliever Scott Downs on the 15-day disabled list on Friday because of a gastrointestinal virus caused by food poisoning. They recalled right-hander Trevor Bell from Triple-A Salt Lake.
The move is retroactive to April 14. Downs signed a 3-year, $15 million free-agent contract in December after spending his first six seasons with Toronto. He opened the season on the DL because of a broken big left toe. The 35-year-old left-hander appeared in two games with the Angels.
This is the 10th time the 12-year veteran has been on the DL. He was 5-5 with a 2.64 ERA in 67 appearances last season.
Bell is in his fourth stint with the Angels over a 3-year span. The 24-year-old has a 3-7 record with a 5.98 ERA in 33 appearances.
