Vancouver — The nonprofit Mount St. Helens Institute is looking for volunteers to participate in its 2011 Conservation Corps program.
The institute seeks volunteers of all ages and experience levels to maintain trails, remove invasive species and build retaining walls.
The program begins April 30 with a work party at the Pine Creek Information Station on the southeast side of the volcano. The first project will be to prepare the volunteer work center at the former Forest Service ranger station at Pine Creek, near the intersection of forest roads 90 and 25.
On May 14, the group will do some maintenance work on the Hummocks Trail northwest of the volcano off Highway 504 near Coldwater Lake.
