Musicians place at California festival

Washougal — Washougal High School musicians traveled to Anaheim, Calif., on April 7 to perform in the National Heritage Music Festival. The festival was attended by bands and choirs throughout the United States and Canada. The Washougal Jazz Band and Wind Ensemble took first place in their categories, and the Chamber Choir took second place. The three groups also received the top award, the Festival Sweepstakes Award, given to the school with the highest combined score.

Aleks Arzhanov, alto saxophonist, received the Maestro’s Award, given to the outstanding soloist.
