Weather Eye: Spring’s coming in blink-and-you-miss-it bits

Temperatures on Saturday were bumping the 70-degree mark for the first time since last year and the first time this year. Did you like it? Well, just hang on to the memory, as clouds and showers are back with us for a few days. In fact, I can’t foresee any really long stretch of nice weather in the offing. So we may just have to get our nice weather piecemeal until the weather pattern changes.

I looked back to my column for Sunday, April 25, 2010, and it went like this: “Today will be a fairly nice day around the Pacific Northwest as a temporary ridge of high pressure hovers overhead. So get out and enjoy the day, as tomorrow late winter/early spring weather returns as a large low pressure system engulfs the West Coast.”

Things came a bit earlier this year, with the nice weather on Saturday and the change on Sunday. And as I remarked in last year’s comments, the change will definitely be back to a feeling of late winter or early spring, with snow levels back down to 2,500-3,000 feet in the Cascades by Monday. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a foot or two in the higher ski areas the next few days. Déjà vu?

So there’s unsettled weather on tap the first half of this week, with maybe a little less unsettled the latter half. But still, we keep a chance of showers in the region. And as I have warned before, any overnight clearing later this week could result in more scattered frost.

I know many folks visited the garden centers and brought home lots of plants and flowers — and maybe some vegetables — to plant in the garden. Keep a good weather eye on the horizon!

Enjoy your week and have a Happy Easter!
