NEW DELHI (AP) — The arrest of India’s Commonwealth Games organizer on a corruption charge has unleashed a wave of anger against the official, with former colleagues ransacking his office and one critic throwing a slipper at him outside court.

Suresh Kalmadi was taken into custody Monday as part of an investigation into price-rigging in New Delhi’s staging of the event. He was charged over a deal with Swiss Timing Ltd. — one of many contracts being questioned in the probe.

The governing Congress Party suspended his membership Monday, and party activists ransacked his office and tore down his photo at the Congress building in western Pune.

One man hurled a slipper at Kalmadi as he arrived for a court hearing in New Delhi on Tuesday.
