ESTACADA, Ore. (AP) — An Oregon man who shot and killed a dog he said ran at him aggressively has been cited and accused of recklessly endangering other people.
The Oregonian reports that 57-year-old Gerald Nagle of Estacada took a wheelbarrow and tools to the end of his driveway Saturday morning when a neighbor’s German shepherd ran across the road toward him.
Clackamas County sheriff’s deputies said Nagle fired 12 shots at the dog with a 9mm-caliber semiautomatic handgun, killing it when reached within 10 feet of him.
Deputies said Nagle claimed the dog had barked at him, nipped at him and chased him on earlier occasions. He said he complained, but the dog owner’s son told him the dog guarded their house and they would not lock it up.
