LONDON (AP) — London organizers say there has been a big surge in applications going into the final hours of ticket sales for the 2012 Olympics.

The six-week phase to apply for the 6.6 million tickets closes Tuesday night in Britain.

On sale are tickets for 650 sessions across 26 sports. Prices range from $33 to $3,320.

London organizing committee chairman Sebastian Coe says there was a “massive surge” in applications over the weekend. He says customers applying on Tuesday stand as good a chance as those who applied on the first day.

Oversubscribed events will be decided by an automated ballot or lottery system.

Coe says tickets for the opening ceremony and 100-meter final are among the highest in demand.
