A masked robber held up a coffee stand along East Fourth Plain Boulevard on Wednesday afternoon and left the scene in a white GMC sport-utility vehicle, but he didn’t get far, officials said.

The robbery occurred about 4:15 p.m. Wednesday at Twin Perks espresso, a stand in the parking lot of the Golden Skate, 4915 E. Fourth Plain Blvd.

The city’s west police precinct is less than two blocks from Twin Perks.

According to police radio calls monitored at The Columbian, the masked man was described as in his 20s, thin, and about 5 feet, 8 inches or 5 feet, 9 inches tall. He wore a gray hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.

He was seen climbing into a white GMC SUV that headed south on Brandt Road.

No weapon was seen.

Eight minutes after the robbery was reported, police pulled over a man and woman in such an SUV along East Mill Plain Boulevard beneath the Interstate 5 overpass. Officers conducted a felony traffic stop with guns drawn and an officer yelled a warning that a police dog would be used if they didn’t exit the vehicle.

The guns and K-9 warning convinced the suspects to exit the SUV.

Officers arrested one of them, a man who allegedly committed the robbery, said Sgt. Kathy McNicholas with the Vancouver Police Department. Tuesday evening, officers were interviewing the woman about the case. Officers also were working to obtain a warrant to search the SUV.

The suspects’ names were not immediately released.
