PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Philadelphia Phillies have recalled catcher Dane Sardinha and sent left-handed reliever Mike Zagurski to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

The team made the move before Friday night’s game against the New York Mets.

Zagurski appeared in two games for the Phillies this season, while Sardinha has spent all season in the minor leagues.

Sardinha batted .205 with two doubles and three homers in 13 games with Philadelphia last season. He’ll back up Brian Schneider until regular starter Carlos Ruiz returns to the lineup.

Ruiz left Wednesday’s game against Arizona with a back injury, and manager Charlie Manuel said his absence could extend a few more days even if he’s not put on the disabled list.
