The Clark County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft of an assault rifle and other items from the covered bed of a La Center police sergeant’s pickup truck.

The truck was parked in the driveway outside the sergeant’s home, near Northeast 182nd Avenue and Northeast 28th Street in Vancouver, when the weapon was stolen sometime between late April 22 and early April 23, according to Sgt. Scott Schanaker, a sheriff’s spokesman.

Police believe the thief intentionally targeted the officer’s vehicle.

Among the items stolen were an AR-15 assault rifle, a number of bulletproof vests, ammunition and several pieces of ballistics gear.

Officers in La Center drive their own vehicles to and from work.
