BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) — NBC Sports Group Chairman Mark Lazarus says he wants to do proud by the man he replaced.

Lazarus took over in May from Dick Ebersol, the towering TV executive who left NBCUniversal after serving as sports boss since 1989.

“We want him to be proud of what we’re doing,” Lazarus told reporters Monday.

Asked what changes might be in store for NBC’s future Olympics coverage after Ebersol’s groundbreaking decades in charge, Lazarus spoke of bringing American audiences more live coverage next summer from London. He said the goal is to satisfy the appetite of “the sports fan looking for immediacy.”

At the session, Lazarus also announced that NBCUniversal’s sports network, Versus, will be renamed the NBC Sports Network early next year.
