KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. (AP) — A southern Oregon woman has pleaded no contest to manslaughter charges in the deaths of a couple in a drunken driving crash last year in Klamath Falls.
The Herald and News reports (http://bit.ly/oEfqO5 ) that 23-year-old Carrie Ames changed her plea last Friday. She was also charged with assault and driving under the influence of intoxicants.
Prosecutors have asked for a sentence of 20 years, noting Ames’ blood-alcohol content was more than five times the legal limit. Her defense attorney has argued for a 10-year sentence.
The September 2010 crash killed 66-year-old Don Barton and his 62-year-old wife, Donna Barton, of Dorris. Their 6-year-old great-grandson was seriously injured.
