Search on for woman missing in Ore. forest

HOOD RIVER, Ore. (AP) — The Hood River County sheriff’s office says an air and ground search has been organized for a Portland woman reported missing in the Mount Hood National Forest.

The sheriff’s office says Aric Essig of Portland called for help Sunday morning, saying he and his girlfriend, 28-year-old Pamela Salant of Portland, had become separated Saturday after arriving at Bear Lake at the base of Mount Defiance for a camping trip.

More than 25 searchers from the sheriff’s office, Forest Service and National Guard, as well as search and rescue groups, searched for her Sunday and the search continued Monday.

Salant reportedly was wearing shorts and a tank top and had no supplies or communications capabilities.
