CHICAGO (AP) — Chicago White Sox first baseman Paul Konerko was out of the lineup for a second straight game Tuesday night against the New York Yankees as he tries to recover from a bruised left calf.

He was hurt and had to leave the game Sunday when he was hit by a pitch from Boston’s Andrew Miller.

Manager Ozzie Guillen said Konerko hopes to try hitting Wednesday and see how he feels. Guillen said he didn’t want Konerko to play if he was still limited because it could force him into bad at-bats.

Konerko is batting .305 with 25 homers and 76 RBIs for the White Sox, who are in third place in the AL Central.

While Konerko was unable to go, Yankees’ shortstop Derek Jeter returned to the lineup after missing Monday night’s series opener with a bruised middle right finger. He’d also been hit with a pitch Sunday against the Orioles.
