CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) — The University of Illinois has chosen University of Washington Provost Phyllis Wise as its next chancellor.
People familiar with the search for a new leader for the Urbana-Champaign campus tell The Associated Press that the university will announce Wise as the next chancellor. They spoke on condition of anonymity because the official announcement won’t be made until later Wednesday.
Wise will replace Richard Herman who resigned in 2009 following the Category I admissions scandal. Robert Easter has been interim chancellor.
Wise has been at Washington since 2006. She was interim president of the university system last year. Wise is a graduate of the University of Michigan and is a professor of physiology and biophysics, biology, and obstetrics and gynecology.
