BEND, Ore. (AP) — A Central Oregon wildfire was about 50 percent contained Thursday night, but three new fires are stretching responders thin.

The Bend Bulletin reports (http://bit.ly/pH6zTX ) campgrounds were evacuated and a portion of Oregon Route 216 was closed while firefighters responded to a blaze in Deadman Canyon, two fires in the Sutton Mountains and a fourth fire north of Maupin, Ore.

About 80 firefighters were working to contain the blazes.

The Sutton Mountain fires grew to cover more than 2,300 acres on Thursday night. The fire north of Maupin stretched over about 3,000 acres.

Officials believe the Deadman Canyon fire was started by humans, but the cause is still under investigation.
