Letter: Vote is blow to conservatives
Friday, August 5, 2011
We conservatives who hoped electing Jaime Herrera Beutler as our U.S. representative would be one more vote to move America to a smaller, less intrusive federal government have to be disappointed.
Herrera Beutler, R-Camas, voted to reduce the growth our the U.S. deficit to a measly one thousand billion dollars a year for the next 10 years. To put this a different way, Herrera Beutler voted to increase our deficit by $10 trillion over the next 10 years.
Herrera Beutler voted for no spending cuts for the next two years, and did so knowing there is no assurance of any cuts in the future. The CBO scored this deal assuming the Bush tax cuts will be eliminated in 2012 and Herrera Beutler agreed to it.
Herrera Beutler let an awful lot of us down.
