LONDON (AP) — European champion Alistair Brownlee won the London triathlon on Sunday, qualifying for Britain’s Olympic team on the Hyde Park course to be used at the 2012 Games.

Brownlee was in a leading group of four by the end of the cycling route past Buckingham Palace. He surged ahead during the 10-kilometer run for his third win in five World Championship Series events.

Brownlee finished 25 seconds ahead of Russia’s Alexander Bryukhankov to meet the selection criteria for Britain’s 2012 Olympic team. Brownlee’s brother, Jonathan, finished third and qualified.

Britain’s Helen Jenkins won the women’s race on Saturday.
