SOUTH BEND, Ind (AP) — Notre Dame began its second preseason football camp under coach Brian Kelly on a muggy and rainy Saturday.

Four quarterbacks, including last year’s starters Dayne Crist and Tommy Rees, are hoping their play over the next three weeks will give them the nod for the Sept. 3 opener against South Florida.

Kelly said he wants to have the No. 1 guy picked out after the first 19 practices, which would fall around the third week in August.

Crist took the first snaps with the first team and was followed by Rees with the first unit. Andrew Hendrix and freshman Everett Golson worked with the second team at the outset.
