NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Before a season filled with expectations, Oklahoma quarterback Landry Jones took a trip he will remember as one of the best times of his life, yet with one of the worst right in the middle of it.

Jones went on a mission trip to Haiti with eight of his Sooners teammates and players from the women’s basketball team.

While he was in the earthquake-damaged country painting houses and playing with needy children, he got the shocking news that linebacker Austin Box had died of what turned out to be an overdose of prescription painkillers.

He came back with a better understanding of himself and his teammates and with a new perspective heading into a season when Oklahoma is expected to contend for the national title.
