Letter: Confident representative will listen

I am so impressed with how Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Camas., obviously does want to represent all the citizens in her district. Her diligence in trying to maintain one-on-one contact is to be commended.

I write because I beg for representation. I fear that the Republicans in holding to the Milton Friedman economic model are going to create a nation of two classes — the rich and the poor. The preamble of our Constitution says the government is to be dedicated to the “general welfare.” If corporations were truly patriotic and cared for this nation, we would not be in the mess we are. Rich people like being rich. More taxes are not going to make them fold up their tents and walk away.

I do agree that the corporate taxes should be lowered because then perhaps the corporations would be charmed into reinvesting in America. A constitutional directive for a balanced budget would work havoc when we are forced to go to war like in the Bush administration, which contributed to our present debt.

Please compromise. Cut budget items. Raise taxes on the rich. Lower corporate taxes. And no constitutional amendment. Please represent me.
