ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) — Detroit Lions running back Mikel Leshoure has been carted off the team’s practice field with a lower left leg injury.

The rookie went down after being hit high by defensive end Cliff Avril during practice Monday.

Leshoure grabbed his left ankle when he was being looked at by the training staff. Trainers also worked on his calf and foot.

The Lions are counting on the second-round pick from Illinois to provide power in the backfield to go along with the speedy Jahvid Best.

Detroit’s starting offensive tackles and a key backup are recovering from injuries.
