WHITE SALMON — Northwestern Lake will be closed permanently to boaters beginning Aug. 15 as PacifiCorp begins work to remove Condit Dam on the White Salmon River.

Northwestern is the 92-acre reservoir behind Condit. The dam will be removed this fall.

“Tunneling work at the base of the dam begins soon,” said Tom Hickey, project manager for PacifiCorp. “The reservoir will be drawn down a total of 10 feet as a safety measure during this work. The drawdown also will accommodate dredging of sediment behind the dam that starts in September.”

The boat ramp on the Klickitat County side of Northwestern Lake closed on Aug. 1. The ramp at Northwestern Lake Park closes Monday.

Updates and other restrictions in the Condit area will be posted at www.pacificorp.com/condit.
