PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The family of Mark O. Hatfield says two public memorial services are planned for the former two-term Republican governor of Oregon and long-time U.S. senator who died Sunday.
The senator’s son Mark O. Hatfield Jr. says the first memorial is planned at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Village Baptist Church in suburban Beaverton.
The second will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at the State Capitol in Salem.
A private funeral service took place Wednesday in Portland, with burial at Willamette National Cemetery.
Mark Hatfield Jr. told The Oregonian (http://bit.ly/ozwIsA) that the first event will focus more on his father’s strong Christian faith and the second will focus on his public career.
