LONDON (AP) — Top-ranked Lee Chong Wei has moved closer to becoming the first Malaysian to win a world badminton title Friday.

Lee reached the world championship semifinals by beating Kevin Cordon of Guatemala 21-7, 21-13.

The worlds at Wembley Arena in London are serving as a test event for the 2012 London Games. The Olympic badminton tournament will be played at the same venue. Lee says he may retire after next year’s Olympics.

Later, three-time world champion Lin Dan was to play Sho Sasaki of Japan. Sixth-seeded Chen Jin was to face Hans-Kristian Vittinghus of Denmark.
