Texas rebuilding after 5-7 finish in 2010

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas coach Mack Brown has quite a rebuilding job to do after the Longhorns went 5-7 last season and didn’t go to a bowl game.

Brown must settle on a starting quarterback, solidify his defense and make sure his new coaching staff is working together.

With so many things unsettled, the Longhorns are in the unusual position of simply fighting for respect instead of chasing a Big 12 or national championship.

The biggest question is at quarterback, where junior Garrett Gilbert is fighting three others to keep his starting job. Gilbert threw 17 interceptions last season against just 10 touchdowns in one of the lowest-scoring offenses in the Big 12.

Brown has hired seven new assistants to shake things up.
