SEATTLE (AP) — A 3-month-old baby boy who was ejected from his mother’s van when it overturned on Interstate 5 at Mount Vernon remains in serious condition with head injuries Friday at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

Spokeswoman Susan Gregg-Hanson says the boy’s condition is improving in the intensive care unit.

The Washington State Patrol says the baby and the car seat flew out of the car and landed separately.

KOMO reports the mother is a 27-year-old from Surrey, British Columbia. She was treated at a Mount Vernon hospital for arm and head injuries. Two girls in the car, who were wearing seatbelts, had minor injuries.

The driver said she was startled when she drove over rumble strips, lost control and hit a barrier.
