JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. (AP) — Washington wildlife agents are trying to trap a bear that attacked a man while walking his dog on Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

KOMO reports the civilian Army employee was treated by medics Thursday for gashes to his abdomen, wrist and thigh.

An Army spokesman says the dog ventured into woods at a place called Engineer Bluff then came running out, chased by the black bear. As the bear ran by the man, it took a swipe at him and continued chasing the dog.

The dog was later found OK off the military base.
