Business name: The Development Center.

Owner: Gabriele Smith and Debrah Williams, co-founders.

Address: 203 S.E. Park Plaza Drive.

What the business does: The Development Center has two primary functions. The first is to create a collaborative holistic mental health center. The second is to train health care providers in professional development and private practice principles through six-week workshops.

How has the economy affected your business: Gabriele Smith said the business she and Debrah Williams operate has not been impacted by the economy because of their business model. They are working to help other private practitioners understand how the business model they use can help others weather the economy’s fluctuations.

Greatest challenge: Smith said the greatest challenge is managing the growing demands of The Development Center while she and Debrah Williams both also maintain their own separate private businesses.

What’s ahead: The partners are currently launching the second phase of their plans for The Development Center by adding more holistic health care associates, including a chiropractor, naturopath and licensed massage therapist.
